Web-based Project Management for Creatives

| Comments (0)

Aquent's recent release of RoboHead 3, the latest version of its Web-based system for project management designed specifically for those in the creative services field, has gotten me wondering about the degree to which this approach is being adopted. Aquent is a global player in the area of hooking up companies with freelancers in a variety of domains, but notably that of marketing and creative services.

RoboHead is integrated with Aquent's own system, which apparently processes over 3,000 checks a week for its contract workers. RoboHead is thus a way to make use of Aquent's underlying project management technology to handle not only payments but a fairly broad spectrum of the entire project process, from creating schedules, reviewing and approving documents, integrating team member communications to organizing file storage.

With complex projects often involving multiple participants in different geographical locations and time zones, having a Web-based system in place to serve as the focal point seems to make sense. Aquent pitches RoboHead for "organizations challenged by too many projects, tight deadlines, and reduced budgets." But what organization wouldn't that include? Aquent has a separate site set up to provide info about RoboHead, which delivers a pretty good overview, so you can decide for yourself. If you haven't yet made use of Web-based project management systems for your creative projects, RoboHead is worth a look.

And if the genre catches your imagination but you crave an even larger feature set, check out Creative Manager Pro. It's pitched more specifically to ad agencies, but the workflow issues are similar to those managed by RoboHead.

I'd be interested in comments from those using Web-based project management systems. Have they really made you more effective managing your projects? And if there are similar systems for creatives I've overlooked, please let me know.
