Free Fonts That Don't Suck: Part 3
It's that time once again, my latest collection of free fonts that actually aren't foul enough to make you run screaming out of the room. In fact, some of them aren't bad at all. Well, at least they don't suck. With that faint praise out of the way, let's get typographic.
Die Gestalten is a design agency with a difference, based in Berlin. Different in that it also sells products geared to other designers, such as hard-to-find books, DVDs, sketchbooks and a few fonts. Their site has a free font area that currently makes four Mac PostScript fonts available, including the curiously-named RussianBread (top) and Doener Kebap Medium (bottom).

FontShop has added some new offerings to its free fonts page, notably OpenType versions of Proxima Nova Light and FF Meta Pro Book, shown below. Meta Pro takes advantage of OpenType to include small caps, extra ligatures, alternate glyphs and Turkish, Cyrillic, Greek and Central European language characters. So if you haven't yet put OpenType fonts through their paces, this isn't a bad place to start.
Finally, Elsner+Flake are making their Alternate Gothic No.2, shown below, available in PostScript, TrueType and OpenType formats, a handy font for titling.
Missed the previous odes to free fontism? Parts 1 and 2 remain available for your perusal.

Thats some nice work. Are they free to use fonts?
Yep, they're free to use.
Thanks for the links Chris!
Cf. the "curiously-named" RussianBread: Actually, "Russian Bread" is the name of a certain kind of cookies in Germany that look exactly like this font (or vice versa).
:-)
Thanks for sharing. Its a pitty that the Proxima Nova font is not available at FontShop anymore. Is there another source for this free font?
Chris Dickman replies: Seems like it's still available.
