Vote Early and Vote Often

It may be too late to follow the first half of the recommendation attributed to Al Capone, but you can still vote as often as you like in the third STEP Design 100 Readers Choice poll, currently being held on Graphics.com.

While there is no shortage of design annuals, the STEP Design 100 competition differs in that all 100 winners are interviewed, with their winning design prominently showcased in a special issue of STEP inside design magazine—the idea being to give designers a chance to articulate the thinking behind their projects. Eighteen submission categories are provided, including Advertising Illustration; Annual Reports; Self-Promotion and Photography (the magazine has a separate competition for web site design), with winners of the 2008 competition displayed in an online gallery.

Entries for the 2009 competition were judged this year by Marian Bantjes, Richard Boynton, Pum Lefebure, Scott Stowell and Martin Venezky, with a selection of entries also chosen by them as candidates for Readers Choice awards.

The illustration above, a Texas Designer’s Map of the World, by Pentagram partner DJ Stout, is one of 274 for which you can cast your vote until January 12, 2009, in the gallery on Graphics.com. You can vote for as many entries as you like, with the winners being determined by how many Yes votes they attract.
